Tashkent DiamondMall,
Tashkent / Uzbekistan , 2018

Tashkent DiamondMall is proposed in the heart of Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, where many administrative, cultural and public buildings are located. The urban plan of Tashkent, which is growing in a radial manner, has a dispersed layout, dominated by regular, wide streets, with different textures and the predominance of green everywhere.

Uzbekistan, where traditional architecture predominates, is rapidly becoming part of new urbanization strategies. Among the recently announced development plans are plans to bring Tashkent's economic and cultural charm to the national economy. Tashkent has already begun plans to create a "high-tech city" to become a global magnet for new foreign investment. It seems that Tashkent, the most populous city in Central Asia, will soon be able to replace its traditional architecture with new business and research centers, smart buildings and new educational and research institutions equipped with smart technologies.

Tashkent DiamondMall is proposed as an independent part of the urban development plans that have yet to materialize. The proposed new shopping center is designed to be an ambitious and vibrant building that is quite large in scale for its location, yet lively and ambitious enough to trigger the development around it. The parcel is located on the axis of the historic Uzbek State Conservatory and the city's local television station. Adjacent to the site is the building of one of Uzbekistan's most important investment companies. In contrast to the traditional building tectonics seen in the city, rggA's proposal presents a building scale that spans the parcel, creating its own huge public space, walkable around the building and accessible from all points. Broken by 5 main circulation volumes and planned in a systematic order, the functions both facilitate wayfinding and make users accessible everywhere. The main functions of Taşkent DiamondMall consist of shops, children's playgrounds, sports areas, food and beverage areas, office lobbies, parking areas, offices distributed in 2 towers and open "green terrace" areas on the mezzanine floors.

The spaces within the building and up to the ceiling are balanced in proportion to the functional scheme of the building. The most important principle here is designed to make every point of the building usable. In this sense, it can be easily read that the "podium floor" on the 18th level of the building is opened for use under the particle roofs. The space here provides a 360' view of the city for the users and fulfills the passive air conditioning criteria. All offices are located in 2 office blocks distributed on 80 floors. An open green terrace is proposed on the 21st and 22nd floors of the double-height mezzanine that divides these two towers, reducing the density of the blocks. The architectural style of Tashkent DiamondMall proposes a holistic structure by dividing it into parts, and the use of glass surfaces as much as possible is balanced with a special cladding material that shines like a diamond. The same fragile language continues with the load-bearing concrete structure system that produces itself in diagonal form in the office blocks. The building, which preserves its unique texture throughout and displays itself with different sub-languages, emphasizes the entrances of the building by using different stone materials in the shopping block and saves it from a monotonous appearance.
